2 convicted on firearm and ammunition charges

Alvin Spencer, 29 and Jason McLeod, 25 both of Swetes, were convicted and sentenced to prison Thursday on charges of possession of firearm and ammunition in All Saints Magistrates’ Court.

Spencer pleaded guilty to possession of one .25 pistol and six matching rounds of ammunition and was convicted and sentenced to one year for possession of firearm and three months for possession of ammunition.

Meanwhile, co-accused Jason McLeod pleaded guilty to possession of one .38 revolver and five matching rounds of ammunition and was convicted and sentenced to one year for possession of firearm and three months for possession of ammunition. Both sentences are to run concurrently.

Both men were among five people jointly charged by police, after they were found in possession of the illegal weapons during a search of their home in Swetes on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

The complaints against the other accused were withdrawn before the Court. Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel-Edwards presided over the matter.
